By Ronald Jordan There is an Old English expression that says, "There's none so blind as those who will not see." As I was praying not too long ago, the Lord reminded me of a principle that I had forgotten regarding curses. It blessed me so much that I just wanted to share it with you, so you can apply it in your own life. If you've done the Way of Blessing courses, you will know how to deal with curses. However, what I'm coming to see is that dealing with a curse is the easy part. However, seeing something as a curse is what can take some time. Before I came to AMI, whenever something bad would happen, like breaking a glass or getting sick, I would simply think it was just an accident. It never occurred to me that the reason this happened was because I had opened a door in my life to the enemy somewhere. But as I began to study, much like you are, I became aware of these things. Then when things started to go wrong, I would come to the Lord, ask Him to show me where I opened the door, and then I would deal with it. However, often, there are curses that are such a part of our lives, that we don't even see them anymore. For example, if you have a curse of poverty in your life, it is very likely that you have gotten so used to always being poor, you don't see it as a curse. Or take sickness and disease. Maybe you were diagnosed with an illness, and the doctors told you that you would be dealing with this for the rest of your life, and so you just didn't even register that it was a curse. James 1:17 says: Every pleasant and complete gift comes from above, and proceeds from the father of those that give out light, who does not change nor cast a shadow as he turns. Every Christian knows that God is a good God, and the devil is a bad devil. But I want to shake it up a bit, and say that sometimes, it's not the good or the bad we have a problem seeing, but the "normal". In every area of the Church today, you look around in horror of what is becoming normal. You have churches that perform gay marriage, churches that are into politics, churches that celebrate Halloween, because it's "normal". Well, if that is normal, then I want to be weird, and do things God's way. But this is not a rant about those things. It is about curses in each one of our lives, that we accept, because we are looking to the World, instead of the Word, as our standard. The Church has swung so much to copying the World, that we sometimes don’t see a curse in our lives, because we think it is normal. But are we not meant to be a city shining on a hill? Are we not meant to be a testimony to the power of God? Well, then it starts by taking hold of the promises that the Lord has given us, and not just accepting things the way that they are. If you have been facing some tough situations if your life, and are wondering why God has allowed this and that to happen, perhaps it's time that you take that question, and point it back to yourself and say: Why have I allowed this to happen? God is not the author of poverty, sickness, fear, theft, strife, destruction, or any other curse. He is the author of blessing. However, if there is a curse in your life, it is there for a reason, because there is some door that you have opened up in your life, and until you face your mountain and deal with it, God can do nothing for you. So I want to take this time, to challenge you to action. How will you set God's people free and lead them to blessing in every area of their lives, if you have been set free yourself? In closing, I want you to think about the things that are going wrong on a continual basis in your life, that you've just accepted as the way things are. Then for each of these things, I want you to answer the following questions:
If the answer to all three questions is no, then it is a curse, and you don't have to accept it! If you can clearly identify a curse in your life, and don't know how to break free, then I highly reccomend the Way of Blessing 2. It will show you step by step what you need to do to break free of every curse. If you've done the course already, then set your face like a flint, and stand against this curse every day, until the enemy yields. Especially if it is something that has been with you for a long time, you are going to need to increase your faith, and more importantly you are going to have to remain steadfast. It is all too easy to get discouraged when you don't see your victory coming instantly. But as it says in 1 Peter 1:7, the trial of your faith is more precious that gold. So don't give up, and you will see the victory that are believing for! The following books are great resources for breaking free of curses in your life...
